Vikram Vij's White Rock & South Surrey Food Tour

Vikram Vij is one of the most well known restaurant personalities in Canada, reflected in the popularity of his three thriving restaurants, his multiple award winning cookbooks, and his national TV appearances, notably as a judge on Dragon’s Den. But where does Vikram like to go to eat & drink? What are his favorite haunts and what does he like to order? In homage to My Shanti, his third restaurant that opened in 2014, Vikram chose to highlight the South Surrey & White Rock neighbourhoods, two places that are both historic yet up-and-coming as exciting food destinations.

The city of Surrey has 6 distinct neighbourhoods and South Surrey is arguably one of the prettiest. Surrounded by golf courses, beautiful parks, and coastline along Semiahmoo Bay, this section of the city is lush and quickly becoming a home for young affluent families. White Rock is a separate city with its own distinct personality named after a geological feature (literally a white rock). The modern history of White Rock is directly tied to the railway linking British Columbia to Washington state, which runs along the shore. This was originally the Great Northern line, and it opened up White Rock and Crescent Beach to tourists from Vancouver and New Westminster in the early 1900s. Like a lot of ocean side towns, the main waterfront promenade is dominated by fish and chip shops, ice cream parlours, and quirky trinket shops enticing you to slow down and explore.
